New Releases: September 15

This week is another strong one for new music. I’m going to go broke with just what I want to pick up. As I was going through the list of what looked interesting (to me), I wondered if I should put more releases up? For example: are people interested in the new Megadeth? Or the new Uncle Kracker? I mean, I put stuff up that I’m not going to buy, so should I actively limit the list to what I think is good/will be popular? This isn’t something that kept me up late, but I did wonder.

Anyway, if you were me, you’d get your hands on the new Muse, the long awaited Kid Cudi, the “new” Q-Tip, some remastered Sunny Day Real Estate (only if you didn’t get them previously), The Dodos, The Drums and The Avett Brothers (if you have a turntable.)

Like always, check Amazon for stuff you think I may have left off of our list, and check for a couple tracks after the albums. Have an excellent week everyone.

Muse – The Resistance
Porcupine Tree – The Incident
Kid Cudi – Man on the Moon: The End of the Day

New Releases: September 1

There are a lot of metal acts releasing albums this week.  Despite my not having listened to their music, my assumption is that a band employing the moniker Bone Gnawer that releases an album entitled Feast of Flesh is going to have a sound I don’t particularly enjoy.  Maybe I’m wrong.  Maybe it’s a girl with a guitar.  But I doubt it.

Not much else to get excited about this week as far as new releases are concerned.  Like always, there are a couple of tracks after the list.  Check Amazon’s full list if there was an album you were expecting to see out this week.

They Might Be Giants – Here Comes Science
Andrew WK – 55 Cadillac
These United States – Everything Touches Everything

New Releases: August 25

This week actually isn’t a horrific one for new music – a couple of good releases, some mediocre, some classics and some has-beens.  It looks, actually, like what each week should look like, in contrast to the schlock that’s been foisted upon the public for the past few weeks.

As a member of the music buying public, I’m personally going to purchase the Imogen Heap album, along with the new efforts from Arctic Monkeys and Fun, and Blitzen Trapper’s new/old EP.  That’s not to say you should copy me, or even that the following list will contain anything which tickles your personal fancy.  Check out the complete list of what’s due out this week here, and get a couple tracks after the list like we usually do.  Have a great week, and I hope you all find something to love.

Arctic Monkeys – Humbug
Blitzen Trapper – Black River Killer EP
Colbie Caillat – Breakthrough
Collective Soul – Collective Soul
Dolores O’Riordan – No Baggage
Fun. – Aim and Ignite

Imogen Heap – Goodnight and Go (mp3) from Speak for Yourself

New Releases: August 18

I feel like the music industry is holding back for a couple weeks in anticipation of the new Jay-Z album, because the past couple of weeks have been disappointing.  This Tuesday’s releases are no different.  There are a bunch of Muse re-issues on vinyl, and then Brendan Benson’s solo album, the new Third Eye Blind, Jack Penate and Jay Reatard, and another capitalization on Michael Jackson’s passing.

Good luck sifting through the chaff to find something you actually want.  As always, there are a couple of tracks to jar your collective memories after the list of songs.

Brendan Benson – My Old Familiar Friend
Colin Hay – American Sunshine
GWAR – Lust In Space
Jake Penate – Everything is New
Jay Reatard – Watch Me Fall
Joe Henry – Blood From Stars
Michael Jackson – The Ultimate Collection
Monster Ballads: The Ultimate Set
MUTEMATH – Armistice
Pissed Jeans – King of Jeans
Sean Paul – Imperial Blaze
Sister Hazel – Release
The Antlers – Hospice
Third Eye Blind – Ursa Major

Did I forget something you were looking for?  Take a look at the week’s full list of releases over at Amazon.  Have an excellent week, y’all.

Third Eye Blind – Blinded (When I See You) (mp3) from Out of the Vein

New Releases: August 11

I am exhausted.  My girlfriend’s sister got married this past weekend, so it went non-stop.  I need another weekend just to recover from the action.  But, the ceremony was nice, and the reception was a blast.  Not that I didn’t tell them, but in case they missed it, allow me to take the opportunity to once again wish all the best to the newlyweds.

As for the music this week, there isn’t much new to look forward to.  Maybe the Woodstock box set would be interesting, but they seem to release a new one of these with added tracks every 5 years or so.  Other that that, there’s not much to get excited about.  So, on my recommendation, save your money for something else you want.

And since there isn’t anything interesting, there are a couple tracks below that the band played at the reception this past Saturday.  (As a side note, it’s my personal feeling that a band is a far better route to go for dancing at a wedding.  A good one will be far more interactive than a DJ.)

Have a great week everyone.

Woodstock: 40 Years on: Back to Yasgur’s Farm (Box Set)
Cobra Starship – Hot Mess
Willie Nelson – Lost Highway
The Bottle Rockets – Lean Forward
Patrick Wolf – The Bachelor
Erasure – Erasure.Club

Stevie Wonder – Superstition (mp3) from Talking Book

Michael Jackson – Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough (mp3) from Off the Wall

Al Green – Let’s Stay Together (mp3) from Let’s Stay Together

New Releases: August 4

This is one of the stronger weeks for new music that I’ve seen.  I’ll personally get the Modest Mouse EP – which has been released prior to this in a series of limited 7-inch singles, the Yim Yames EP (which, if you don’t know, is a thinly veiled penname for the lead singer of My Morning Jacket) and the Julian Plenti album.  I already have the Japandroids disc, which is excellent, but I believe this week it finally sees its physical release on the band’s new label.

And, a very happy 30th birthday to my friend Brian.  I’ll be down to celebrate soon.

Have a happy week of listening.  Like we always do, there are a couple tracks to whet your collective whistles after the list.

Modest Mouse – No One’s First and You’re Next

Japandroids – Wet Hair (mp3) from Post-Nothing

New Releases: July 28

I apologize for today, because I don’t have a fully prepared new releases post available. This is due to unique time constraints as I start a new job today. As usual, check out Amazon for this week’s releases and enjoy a new-ish track below. And don’t fret if you come here regularly to find out what to purchase this week because I, or more likely Andy, will have you taken care of properly next time.

Atlas Sound (Feat Noah Lennox) – Walkabout (mp3)
